Ballarat Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash near Avoca on Tuesday morning, which tragically claimed the life of Natte Yallock Primary School principal Soraya Hepburn.

It is believed Ms Hepburn’s vehicle was travelling along the Sunraysia Highway at Lamplough when it collided with a truck just before 8.15 am.

Ms Hepburn, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, died at the scene, while the driver of the truck was uninjured.

In a statement made on Facebook Wednesday morning, Natte Yallock Primary School expressed its sadness at Ms Hepburn’s passing.

“Soraya Hepburn was a much loved principal of Natte Yallock Primary School for the past two years and an integral member of the Pyrenees Cluster and North Principal Network,” the statement read.

“Soraya was a highly regarded teacher at Waubra Primary School for many years prior to this. Soraya was also a parent and long-standing school council member at Woodmans Hill Secondary College. She will be greatly missed by many.

“Our deepest sympathies to Soraya’s family and loved ones at this difficult time, as well as our students, families, staff and local community.”

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations remain ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, with dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
