The drivers of two vehicles that collided at the intersection of Inkerman and Burns streets on Monday morning have escaped with only minor injuries, with both cars suffering extensive damage.

Two vehicles have been written off and a property damaged following a collision in Inkerman Street yesterday morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Burns and Inkerman streets shortly before 8 am Monday, where a Jeep and Hyundai had collided.

The intersection was closed to traffic for over an hour, with the single occupants of both vehicles, a 56-year-old woman and 61-year-old woman taken to hospital with minor injuries.

According to police, the driver of the Jeep had failed to stop and give way at the intersection, colliding with the Hyundai, going through a fence and ending up on a neighbouring property.

Central Goldfields Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Anthony Passalick said the vehicles suffered significant damage, however it was unclear how much damage had been done to the property.

“Those vehicles suffered structural damage, it was extensive and they’ll be written off,” he said.

“The white Jeep has driven through the fence line of a neighbouring property and damaged that and it’s collided with the gas meter, but at this stage I don’t think there was any damage to the meter itself.”

Led Sen Con Passalick said the offending driver was unfamiliar with the area of the collision, and wasn’t aware there was an intersection.

He said the incident is a clear reminder to road users of the importance of driving to the conditions and being aware of your surroundings.

“The driver of the offending vehicle is from out of town and wasn’t familiar with the area,” he said.

“This is a pretty clear reminder to drive at a safe speed and be aware of your surroundings.

“The female that’s in the wrong hadn’t seen the intersection and my advice to drivers is that if you’re in a position where you can’t see what’s ahead of you — slow down and drive to those conditions accordingly.”
