Police are reminding local licensed premises and residents that it is illegal to supply minors with alcohol with a meal — even when they’re with their parents.

A post made on the Goldfields Police Service Area Eyewatch Facebook page noted when officers had been speaking with a number of local licensed premises recently, many were not aware of the changes to the law.

“It has come to our attention that some members of the community are unaware that it is illegal to supply minors with alcohol on licensed premises with a meal, even in the company of their parents,” it read.

The changes came into effect nearly five years ago in 2018 when the State Government made amendments to the Liquor Control Reform Act 1998.

The Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation states changes to the Act at that time included that “licensees will no longer be permitted to supply liquor to persons under 18 years of age (minors) for consumption on licensed premises under any circumstances.”
