Police investigate local collision
Three people have been taken to hospital, with one person airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital, after a two-vehicle collision in Havelock on Tuesday afternoon.
Police, ambulance and CFA services were called to the scene at the Bendigo-Maryborough Road and Old Eddington Road intersection following a collision at around 1 pm involving a Honda and a Mazda which closed the road for nearly two hours.
According to Ambulance Victoria, three people were injured with one person airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital and a male and a woman transported to Bendigo Hospital.
Police said two of the four occupants in the Mazda were spotted by witnesses leaving on foot before emergency services could arrive.
Maryborough Police Station Sergeant Jamie Coles said police inquiries into the incident remain ongoing.
“We are investigating the circumstances of how the collision took place and what the contributing factors were in relation to the collision,” she said.
“It appears that one of the motorists failed to give way at the intersection causing the collision.
“We are also conducting further investigations into the passengers that were seen by independent witnesses leaving the scene on foot.
“We are appealing to any witnesses, people with information, or any dashcam footage of around that time on Old Eddington Road to come forward to the police.
“Make sure to drive to the conditions on the road and the weather and to adhere to the signage in relation to speed limits and give way stop signs.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Maryborough Police on 5460-3300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
