Members of the Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group are encouraging not-for-profit groups seeking funding to present their ideas to an expert panel. Set to take place later this month, Pitch Night is an opportunity for local groups to take the next step in turning their ideas into reality.

Following last year’s success, groups seeking funding for new projects will once again have the chance to pitch their ideas.

Inspired by councillor Anna De Villiers in partnership with the Maryborough Volunteer Resource Group (MVRG), the Pitch Night is becoming a much valued feature of the not-for-profit sector in the shire.

The session will be conducted in a supportive and friendly atmosphere and will see organisations and individuals presenting their ideas to a panel consisting of Julie Driscoll from Community Bank of Avoca, Maryborough and St Arnaud, Jeannie Clark from the Maryborough Community House and Alistair Shaw, Facilitator for the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal (FRRR).

Panel members will then be given feedback, tips and suggestions to bolster their submission.

MVRG president Tony Macer said it is not necessary to have fully fleshed out proposals.

“Some of last year’s presentations were just vague ideas while others were very detailed and thoroughly documented proposals,” he said.

“We learnt so much, and improved our understanding of what good funding submissions should look like.”

Anna De Villiers, Alistair Shaw and Tony Macer are excited to hear the community’s pitches.

Seats and tables are limited, so those interested are encouraged to register early.

Any community group or individual is welcome to pitch their ideas, regardless of whether they have attended a grant writing session.

“The popularity of last year’s pitch night has seen groups booking in already,” Mr Macer said.

“We can only manage around eight presentations on the night, however we also do encourage those who would like to be in the audience to observe.”

The Pitch Night will be at 6.30 pm on Tuesday, August 19 at the Community Hub.
