Council and the community have been left disappointed after the Story Seat in Phillips Gardens was damaged during the week.
The backrest of the seat was rocked off its hinges causing it to tilt backwards sometime on Tuesday morning.
The Story Seats, which are situated throughout the shire, were a Go Goldfields project launched in 2017 which saw artists create unique sculpture seats.
The Phillips Gardens seat is covered in images of Marigolds and the colour orange, creating awareness that family violence is unacceptable.
The vandalism has been reported to police and Central Goldfields Shire Council acting manager operations Brenton Hull said the seat will be repaired as soon as possible.
“Council is disappointed by the recent vandalism to the Phillips Gardens Story Seat,” he said.
“The Story Seats were a Go Goldfields community arts project that saw 120 local community members work with local artists to create the seats.
“If anyone has information relating to the vandalism, we encourage you to contact Maryborough Police.
“Council’s operations team will now work to repair the seat as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information on the damage to the seat should contact the Maryborough Police Station on 5461-3300 or make a report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
