Pets rejoice: new store opens its doors
Maryborough’s newest pet supply store opened its doors recently, catering to all country creatures big and small.
Pets Domain is a regional small chain store, specialising in food and supplies for country animal lovers.
The store’s manager Pamela Crofts said the bright blue corner in Goldfields Shopping Centre has already become popular with its DIY dog wash, fish wall and range of ‘small animal’ feed.
“A lot of customers come in with their Kelpies and Border Collies, and we have a whole range of foods for them but also for everyday Dacshunds and Chihuahuas, and also cats like Ragdolls and Tabby cats,” she said.
“But we have a small bird range, and are looking at possibly trying to get some more products in to really expand that.
“The biggest thing we have noticed since being here is the amount of fish people locally ... they are so excited because they don’t have to travel to Bendigo or Ballarat for what they need.
“We have a lot of turtle lovers out here as well, so they come for our plants, we do have a little bit of freezer food for some animals too.”
Since it’s opening, Pets Domain staff have been moved by the welcome from local pet lovers who felt they needed the tailored retail outlet.
“It’s really good to have that excitement from the community,” Ms Crofts said.
“The biggest things people have said is ‘we needed this, we really needed a pet supply store’ and they have been really welcoming.
“It’s a dopamine hit when people come in with their dogs and puppies, we get to go to work and play with animals that aren’t ours.”
Pets Domain are also known for their community engagement, with each store hosting their own occasions welcoming both pets and owners.
Ms Crofts said the team are already planning a series of events later this year.
“We want to have meet and greet days for pets up for adoption. From July 20 to 27, we will also have a pet photography area. People will book for $10, that money will go toward shelters, and we won’t keep any of that,” she said.
“I’m also looking at getting some show bags made up with products and samples for cats and dogs, lots of little things to help the community take care of their pets and get them involved.”
With hopes to expand stock in the future, Ms Crofts said the store is hoping to support local pet owners with whatever particular needs their animals have.
“We are trying to get an idea of what the people want, and hopefully we can get them in,” she said.
