Passersby fire save commended
The quick actions of some good samaritans, who extinguished a fire in Maryborough on Tuesday, are being commended.
A passersby to a Burke Street property reported and extinguished a rubbish fire around 2.10 pm on February 3.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire which was burning during the Fire Danger Period.
Maryborough Fire Brigade Captain Darryl Wagstaff said the fire was behind a shed on the property in a pile of rubbish.
Captain Wagstaff said a passersby saw black smoke, called Triple Zero, and extinguished the fire with a garden hose.
“We thank the good samaritans who quickly pulled up and started to extinguish for their quick and prompt action because it stopped the fire spreading into a neighbours property,” he said.
Captain Wagstaff warned the community to remain diligent during the Fire Danger Period.
“Be cautious of anything outside that may cause a fire during the Fire Danger Period. Whether it’s accidental or deliberate you need to really take care,” he said.
“You can be charged with a penalty for lighting a fire and allowing a fire to be lit during the fire danger period.”
