Palliative care unit bolstered by bowling competition’s ongoing donations
The sequel to the Goldfields Playing Area Charity Round was even better than the original, raising over $4400 for the Maryborough Hospital’s palliative care unit.
Teams and players from midweek and weekend pennant came together at the Maryborough Highland Society for round 10 and 12 of each competition to enjoy their bowls and raise money for a vital cause.
Green fees, raffle tickets and other donations brought the official total up to $4429.60, surpassing last year’s inaugural donation amount of $4176.50.
Players took advantage of the relaxed dress code, with tutus, football colours and colourful patterned shirts a common sight on the greens throughout the round.
Donations will go towards the Maryborough District Health Service’s palliative care unit, providing better care for locals who have a terminal illness.
In a statement shared alongside the Goldfields Playing Area, Highland Bowls secretary Jason Arthur expressed his appreciation for the efforts of the local bowls community.
“I am thrilled to announce that the Goldfields Playing Area Charity Pennant Round raised an incredible $4,429.60 for the palliative care unit,” the statement reads.
“All participants and donors should be proud and inspired by how our bowling community came together to support such an important cause.
“A special thank you to the Maryborough Floor Maintenance for their generous contribution [and the] Maryborough Highland Society for hosting and feeding all our bowlers.
“These two businesses played a significant role in this success.
“Everyone’s generosity, spirit, and teamwork have made a real difference, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this fantastic effort.
“Together, we’ve shown the true power of community.”
The successes of the round have prompted the two other leagues in the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Playing Area to implement their own Charity Round this season.
