The frustrating wait for Maryborough to get back out onto the field has continued over the last two weeks due to Victoria’s recent spate of rain, but that is a chance to come to an end at Jubilee Oval on Saturday afternoon against Beaufort, despite the threat of more rain.

The Owls have been continuing their busy run of recruiting, recently announcing the exciting signing of Akon Mawien, who has previously played for Melbourne University and Prospect in premier cricket in Victoria and South Australia respectively.

Mawien joins an extensive list of arrivals, which includes Harry Lumsden, Zac McLeod, Chris Freeman and Tom Doran.

They will look to get out onto the field this week against a Beaufort team that has made some changes this season, with Ben Woolidge looking to make his first appearance as captain after moving from Streatham, while Kriss Ellis also arrives.

Much has changed since the two teams’ last meeting, which was in December 2020. On that occasion, Maryborough proved too strong, winning by 55 runs, with Corey Taylor top scoring with 78 runs in their total of 6/176. In response, Beaufort could only muster 8/121, with Lachlan Oddie top scoring with 25 runs.

With Princes Park’s wicket continuing to settle in the midst of recent rains, it means that Jubilee Oval will host a game in the Maryborough District Cricket Association for the first time since round four of the 2019/20 season.

At this stage, the game is slated to go ahead despite forecast of heavy rain tonight.
