A fascinating day’s play awaits both Maryborough and Carisbrook, despite it being the final day’s play of the season for both teams.
Regardless of whatever happens, there is most likely going to be a first for both teams this season. Should Carisbrook successfully chase down 249, it will be the first time this season that the Brookers have passed 200 in an innings, if Maryborough are successful in quelling Brook’s batting lineup, it will be the first time they have taken all 10 wickets in an innings.
Having said that, history is on the side of Carisbrook, having lost just four wickets in their two meetings with the Owls this season.
Martin Mark has been the most successful with the bat against the Owls, making 117 of his 222 runs for the season in both of his meetings, scoring two half centuries in the process.
Cole Harris is another who has scored a half century this season against the Owls, and will be looking for more success with the bat.
And that’s before even mentioning Dean Nalder, who has led the way admirably with the bat for Carisbrook with 454 runs for the season.
James Adam is also fourth in the batting standings, but will undoubtedly be full of confidence after taking 5/17 with the ball and cleaning up the Owls’ bottom order last week.
For the Owls, a lot of pride is at stake, but a second victory of the season has also been closer for them over the last few weeks.
They fell 24 runs short against Colts Phelans after a brave batting performance from Martin Dell, while they needed seven more wickets to defeat Beaufort before that game was ultimately called off.
But in recent weeks, it’s been their veterans who have stood up, with Marc Cassidy scoring a terrific 97 in their first innings, while Dell again stood up with the bat, scoring 42.
With the ball, a mixture of youth and experience will likely be called upon. Jasper Trickey will most likely finish his first full season in A grade as the Owls’ leading wicket-taker — a phenomenal performance from a youngster with plenty of talent.
Lachie Condie is currently second in the bowling list for the Owls with eight wickets, while Steven Shovan, Ben Hoban and Dell will also likely be called upon to take wickets at crucial times.
