Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a residential property on Barr Street, Maryborough, at about 11.45 am — with the fire contained to the single-storey house.

A male occupant, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

Two women, aged in their 30s and 60s, along with a three-year-old child were treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries.

A two-year-old child was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

Police established a crime scene and an arson chemist attended the property yesterday, however as of print deadlines investigations remain ongoing.

Maryborough Police Senior Sergeant David Flood said the incident was a tragedy for the community.

“For a rural country town, obviously people are well known and connected. It’s extremely unexpected,” he said.
