One dead following two-vehicle collision

A person has died following a fatal collision in Maryborough on Saturday night.

Emergency services responded to reports a Holden Commodore collided with a Daihatsu sedan on the Dunolly-Maryborough Road, near the intersection of Drive In Court, at about 9.30 pm.

The driver of the Daihatsu, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.

The male passenger of the Daihatsu was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

The male driver of the Commodore, who was the only occupant, was taken to hospital by road with non-life-threatening injuries.

He is under police guard and will be interviewed by detectives.

Police are working to establish the circumstances of the crash, and the investigation, led by the Major Collision Investigation Unit, is ongoing.

Saturday’s collision brings the total number of lives lost on Victorian roads to 25 so far this year, compared to 38 at the same time last year.
