Clunes 5/132 def Laanecoorie Dunolly 129

Central to the gap closing up at the top was Clunes’ five-wicket victory over Laanecoorie Dunolly at Bull Millgate Oval, inflicting the first loss of the season for Laane in the process.

After winning the toss and batting, Laane were in a world of pain when an inspired spell by Lucas Fudge, who finished with 3/24, restricted them to 6/32.

But good hitting from Jacob Meyer, who launched seven fours and three sixes, saw him top score with 61 as Laane were able to recover to a defendable 129.

Jax Coon was also in the thick of the action, taking 3/22 off 4.5 overs.

In response, Clunes always looked fairly comfortable, despite losing five wickets throughout the course of the innings, with Harrison Blomeley helping set the tone with 35 runs.

Mitch Coppick’s unbeaten 46 helped Clunes finish off the job.

Jayden McDonald was Laane’s best bowler, finishing with 2/16 off four overs.

Carisbrook 65 def by Maryborough 8/236

Maryborough are continuing to roll in the competition, scoring a 171-run victory over Carisbrook to maintain their hold on the Craig Jennings Cup at Carisbrook Recreation Reserve.

Carisbrook won the toss and elected to bowl.

The Owls were off to a somewhat slow start, sitting at 4/70, but some insane hitting from Jason Hunt changed the course of the game.

Hunt’s electrifying 54-ball stint at the crease saw him hit 10 fours and five sixes.

However, he fell just one agonising run short of the first A reserve century of the season, trapped in front for LBW by Elliot Cullinan on 99.

Cullinan was one of two Carisbrook players to take three wickets, with Nick Broad taking 3/13 off eight overs, and Cullinan 3/43 off six.

Hunt was also in the thick of it all with the ball, dominating the game as he skittled the Carisbrook middle order in tandem with Oliver Cassidy, with Carisbrook unable to do anything about Maryborough’s deep bowling lineup.

Jarryd Coghlan was the only Carisbrook player to make double-figures, as his 26 helped them make 65.

Hunt took 5/10 off six overs to finish off arguably his best all-round game, while Cassidy (2/18 off five) and Jasper Trickey (2/17 off 4.3) also excelled with the ball.

Colts Phelans 9/210 def MKM 163

A competitive game between local rivals Colts Phelans and MKM saw Colts take a 47-run victory at Hedges Oval, taking top spot on the ladder in the process.

Batting first, Colts were well-served by Dan McGregor at the top of the order, making 36 runs, while Graham Taylor (21) and Dean Walker (29) also contributed well.

But it was David Forde’s 64 which anchored the innings for Colts, scoring 13 fours at a good rate as they passed 200.

A private player for MKM took 4/33 off six overs.

MKM recovered well from a slow start to put consistent runs on the board, but they were unable to prevent Taylor from dominating the middle portion of the game as he ran riot through the Mill’s middle order.

Taylor finished with 5/15 off his six overs as he helped seal the game for Colts.

Despite that, the Mill did well to have some good lower-order hitting to make 163, with Muhammad Haseeb Khan and Tibin Michael both top-scoring on 31, while Dylin Leist and Henry Potter both made 18.

Talbot 9/258 def Beaufort 172

It was a run-feast at Talbot Recreation Reserve as 430 runs were scored across both teams.

The Yabbies won the toss and elected to bat, immediately making a mark on the game with a 91-run opening stand between Ryan Kenden and Jorde Bux.

Both openers would go on to make half-centuries for the Yabbies, with Kenden scoring 65 and Bux 54.

Talbot’s position would be improved further by another half-century from Jack Kenden, who scored 58, while Jye Kenden made 28 as the Yabbies made a commanding 258 off their 40 overs.

Glen Cosgriff provided some resistance with 3/34 off his eight overs for the Crows, while Ben Woolidge (2/27 off six) and Richard Stokes (2/49 off five) also took multiple wickets.

Beaufort fought hard to give an honest account of themselves, with Noah Scofield providing some good resistance at the top of the order, scoring 28.

It was the duo of Kenneth Arch and Woolidge who gave the Crows their best partnership of the day, combining for 58 runs for the fourth wicket.

Arch would go on to score 34 and Woolidge 48, while Stokes provided some late hitting with an unbeaten 23.

Bux would be in the thick of it with the ball, taking 4/37 off eight overs, while Nathan Hastie (2/7 off two) and Karl Gunther (2/23 off seven) also claimed multiple wickets.

Round 5

The first week of the split round arrives this week, with three games.

Of key importance is the clash between new ladder-leaders Colts Phelans and third-placed Laanecoorie Dunolly at True Blue Floors Oval.

The gap at the top sees Colts lead on quotient by just 0.010, meaning every run and wicket will count throughout the afternoon, while Laane will be determined to bounce back in a big way.

Princes Park will host its first game of the season, with Maryborough set to host Talbot.

Maryborough are in the frame to take top spot if they can secure a win, while Talbot are starting to roll with consecutive victories after a slower start to the season.

MKM and Carisbrook will play off for the Spokes-Koop Shield, with both teams determined to keep themselves in the frame.

The Mill haven’t quite got the result to reflect their improvement with both the bat and the ball, while Carisbrook will be hoping to bounce back after they were rolled in quick time by Maryborough last week.
