The Maryborough Rotary Club is calling for employers with an outstanding worker to nominate them now for a Workmanship Award — something the club has been doing for the past 40 years.

The Pride of Workmanship was launched as a Rotary project in June 1975 at a district meeting, aimed at encouraging pride in personal performance in the workplace and to help create a positive national attitude towards work.

The program was adopted by over 600 clubs across Australia, New Zealand, the South Pacific, Malaysia, Canada, and the United States, and Maryborough Rotary has been awarding locals since 1983.

Maryborough Rotary Club’s Vocational Committee chair Meryl James said in more recent years, employers have been asked to nominate outstanding employees.

“From the year 2000 until 2020, the club’s Vocational Committee selected a specific vocational area for awards such as retail sector, education, health, or apprentices,” she said.

“However, in 2020, we decided to go out to employers in our community and ask them to nominate worthy recipients from their own business or employment sector.”

The award covers all aspects of work performance and ethics, inclusive of quality and quantity of output, safety, initiative, and a sense of responsibility.

Six awards are on offer this year for employees who have consistently demonstrated the sense of responsibility to do a job well in their employment area during the COVID-19 period.

“If employers miss out this year, we encourage them to nominate early next year when we plan to offer six more awards,” Ms James said.

Only one nomination will be accepted from each employer. Nominations close at 5 pm on April 5.

The awards will be presented at a Pride of Workmanship Dinner at the Maryborough Highland Society on May 11.

For nomination forms, contact Geoff James on 0407 684 619.
