Central Goldfields Shire residents will now be able to put in their vote for the 2023 Australia Day Awards with nominations set to open on Friday, October 21.
The awards will recognise the efforts of members and groups within the community across three categories: Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event or Project of the Year.
Central Goldfields Shire Council coordinator events and volunteer development Alisha Chadwick is encouraging people to send in their nominations.
“This is a good way for the community to recognise the efforts of individuals or groups who have gone above and beyond in what they do,” she said.
Ms Chadwick said that while the awardees are remarkable, there is a dearth of applications.
“We always have good quality winners, although we don’t always get a lot of applicants so we really encourage the community to nominate someone,” she said.
“Even in current times with the floods or during COVID, there might be someone who isn’t in the spotlight but is doing great things for the community.”
The nominations can be submitted online at www.centralgoldfields.vic.gov.au or through the official form which can be downloaded from the website. Hard copies of the form are also available on demand by calling 5461-0610.
Nominations will close on Sunday, November 27 and the award recipients will be announced on January 26.
