Newstead weathers a late challenge from the Tigers
After leading comfortably at three-quarter time, Newstead survived a late comeback by the Tigers to win by just seven points at the final siren.

Newstead kicked the opening goal of the quarter through Brad Richardson just four minutes into the game.
Patty Parr was the focal point down the other end for the Tigers and he answered for Lexton after Dylan Bourke hit him with a bullet pass. Parr had three shots on goal in this term for two goals.
Newstead was getting plenty of the ball but kicked five behinds in succession as the Tigers led at quarter-time by six points.
Newstead’s inaccuracy continued in the second term as they kicked another four behinds before finally breaking through with a major when Ben Moran handballed to Ethan Maltby who snapped truly to put the Steaders in front at the ten-minute mark.
Richardson kicked the next two goals of the game for Newstead to lead at half time by 17 points.
Parr kicked his third goal to open the scoring in the third term, but Newstead kicked the next three goals in succession as they were led by Joel Smith, who created many opportunities up forward.
The Steaders were breaking the lines with run and carry and Lexton had no answer as Newstead led at three-quarter time by 30 points.
At the commencement of the final quarter, it was expected to be a runaway victory to Newstead, but three final quarter goals to Parr and another to Aiden Broughton had the Tigers within five points at the 19-minute mark and the game was in the balance.
But Newstead played smart football and played around the boundary line, denying Lexton the opportunity to kick the winning goal that was needed for victory and the visitors won by seven points.
Smith and Hall played a key role in Newstead’s victory and others to play well were Richardson, Michael Dalrymple, Maltby and Oliver Daldy, with Richardson kicking three goals.
Parr kicked six goals, giving him the honours as Lexton’s best player, and he was joined by Bryce Karslake, Jaykeb Lench, Aiden Broughton, Matthew Smith-Bye and Jimmy Templeton.
