NEWSTEAD (51) def CAMPBELLS CREEK (46)

Newstead were able to overrun Campbells Creek in what was a pulsating finish to a high-quality game.

Both teams were looking to keep their season alive, having had one win apiece to start their season, and it was Campbells Creek who did the early running, scoring 13 goals to 10 in the opening quarter to take a three-goal lead at the first break.

Creek were the better team again in the second, scoring 12 goals to 10 to open up the lead to five goals by the main break.

But Newstead, sensing that they needed something special, were able to respond, scoring 15 goals in the third quarter, while restricting Creek to eight goals to take the lead heading into the final term.

It was the Kangaroos that had a little bit more when it mattered, scoring 16 goals to 13 in an exciting final quarter to eventually finish winners by five goals.

Verity Gartside dominated in the goal circle for Newstead, scoring 36 goals, while for Campbells Creek, Lillie Wrigley scored 28 goals and Jordan Bagley scored 18.
