Newstead took their most important victory of the season thus far, defeating Campbells Creek and maintaining a one-game buffer to the chasing pack inside the top eight.

It was a most impressive performance from the Steaders, who were able to double the Magpies’ score in the end and provide themselves an important percentage boost in what is a tight battle for eighth spot.

The Steaders were able to get the jump, scoring 16 goals to Creek’s 11 to lead by five goals at the first change.

In a reasonably similar second quarter, Newstead were able to score 17 goals to Creek’s 11 to lead 33-22 at half time.

However, it was the third quarter which proved to be important in the context of the game and Newstead’s season. They were able to score 18 goals to six to clear out to a 23-goal cushion at three-quarter-time.

The Steaders were able to pile on the goals in the last, scoring 17 while restricting Creek to six to run out 68-34 winners.

In what was an impressive performance for the Steaders, Lillie Spragg and Layla Benson-Zepnick were their better performers, while Kirby Kneebone scored 36 goals and Verity Gartside 32.

For Campbells Creek, Elouise Jones, Jemma Finning and Kasey Button were their best, while Lillie Wrigley led the way with 19 goals.
