Newstead on the board with first win
Newstead have won their first game of the season with a competitive eight-goal victory over Trentham.
It was a well-played game for both sides across all four quarters, however Newstead were just that bit better around their home court and under the ring.
A 14-goal first quarter from Newstead put them in good stead heading into the second, with Trentham hot on their heels with 12 goals of their own.
An almost identical second quarter followed, with Newstead doubling their score out to 28 goals while the Saints were able to find their avenue to the ring 10 times, sitting at 22 by the main break.
A six-goal lead at half time quickly blew out to an eight-goal margin in the third quarter, a margin that would remain as both side’s fought equally in the second half.
Pressure across the court was high on Saturday and it was the goal shooter and attack players for both sides that shone in the end.
Trentham’s Sharna Ford and Kasey Button scored 18 and 22 goals respectively, each shooting at just under 80 percent accuracy.
For the Steaders, Brianna Jury scored 29 goals from 36 opportunities while Tayla Gale was very tidy, netting 21 of her own at 80 percent accuracy.
