An inspired Newstead moved up to sixth position after disposing of Trentham by 18 goals at Trentham Reserve.
It was a terrific performance from the Kangaroos as they took control from the second quarter onwards as they made a big statement about their intention to play finals.
The first quarter was a tight affair, with Trentham taking a slight lead thanks to an eight-goal to seven effort. Jacqui Bell scored six goals for the Saints, while Zahlia Turton added two, and for the Kangaroos, Tayla Gale scored five goals and Bri Jury two.
But the second quarter saw a shift in the game as the Kangaroos flipped the script, scoring 18 goals to five to lead 25-13 at the main break. Gale scored 11 goals and Jury seven, while for Trentham, Tarnee Hammond scored all five of their goals.
The Kangaroos were able to control the pace in the third term, scoring 13 goals to 10 to increase the lead to 38-23 at the final change, with Gale scoring nine goals and Jury four, while for Trentham, Hammond scored five, Stephanie Hammond scored three and Bell scored twice.
The Kangaroos continued to increase the lead, scoring 15 goals to 12 in the last term as they took a momentous victory. Gale scored seven goals to finish with 32 for the day, while Jury added eight. For Trentham, Bell scored five goals, Tarnee four and Turton three.
