Newstead have firmed for finals, moving two games clear in sixth after an accomplished performance against Navarre at Newstead Recreation Reserve.

It was a big result for the Kangaroos, which also sees them keep up with the top four as a result, keeping pressure on the likes of Carisbrook and Lexton.

A fast start for the Roos saw them score 13 goals to eight in the first quarter to take a five-goal lead at the opening change. Tayla Gale scored eight goals and Alice Halliwell scored five for the Kangaroos, while for Navarre, Annabelle Price scored five goals and Sadie Reading three.

There were changes for the Kangaroos regardless after quarter time, but it paid dividends as they scored 14 goals to eight to increase their lead to 11 goals, 27-16, by the main break. Gale continued her scoring spree, scoring nine goals, while Bri Jury scored five, and for Navarre, Mollie Simpson scored five goals, and Price three.

Newstead continued to control the pace of play in the third quarter, delivering 12 goals to nine to increase their lead to 14 goals by the final change, leading 39-25. Gale scored six goals, with Jury adding four and Halliwell scoring two for the Kangaroos, while for the Hoppers, Simpson scored five goals and Price four.

The last quarter was a lower-scoring affair, but it was one that the Kangaroos could enjoy as they got the job done by scoring nine goals to seven. Gale scored five goals to finish as the leading scorer on the court with 28 goals, while Jury added four. For Navarre, Simpson scored four times, while Price finished as their leading scorer with 15 goals for the afternoon after adding three goals in the last term.

The Kangaroos will have an opportunity to increase their gap on the chasing pack when they make the short trip to Campbells Creek, while Navarre will face a tough gig against the high-flying Maryborough Giants.
