Mask changes, density limits increase again
1 min read

Victorians relaxed into the weekend as the state rolled back coronavirus restrictions from midnight on Friday.

Premier Daniel Andrews announced on Friday that from 11.59 pm that night, restrictions would ease back to the COVIDSafe Summer level.

That means face masks are now only required in high risk settings such as public transport, taxis, large retail settings like supermarkets, shopping centres and department stores — masks must still be worn when social distancing cannot be maintained.

Up to 30 people per day can attend a home for private gatherings and up to 100 people can attend outdoor gatherings.

Premier Andrews thanked Victorians for their efforts.

“I want to thank every Victorian for making today’s (Friday) announcement possible, and I want to thank every Victorian for their patience,” he said.

“It’s been a hard slog, but Victorians are doing what they do best as we work to beat this virus — staying the course and looking out for each other.”

Changes have also been made to density limits for businesses, with pubs, restaurants and cafes remaining at one person per two square metres for both indoors and outdoors with no other cap, so long as electronic record keeping (QR codes) is used.

Beauty services will follow the same guideline, or a one person per four square metres will apply if they cannot provide electronic record keeping.

Retail will also fall under the same rules, however electronic record keeping is only recommended where practical.

For gyms, the density limit remains one per four square metres with exercise classes limited to 50 indoors and 100 outdoors.

There’s no limit for small operations if the patron number is under 25, although they will still be required to keep records.

There were no new locally acquired cases on Monday, the third consecutive day of zero.

There were two new cases confirmed on Friday, however, they were primary close contacts of pre-existing cases and had been quarantining during their infectious period.
