More than one million Victorians have already accessed the Victorian Government’s $250 Power Saving Bonus, including hundreds of locals.
The bonus provides a $250 payment for Victorian households to help ease cost-of-living pressures and encourages them to compare energy offers to save money.
The latest round of the program, which began on March 24, has also seen 40 percent of applicants find a better energy deal through the Victorian Energy Compare website, an independent comparison tool used to find cheaper electricity deals.
The $250 payment is available to all Victorian households, as long as home owners can provide a recent residential electricity bill, are the account holder for that bill and visit the Victorian Energy Compare website.
In the 3465 postcode, which includes Maryborough and surrounding areas, 2076 residents have benefitted from the $250 payment, with hundreds of others across the district also accessing the scheme.
Premier Daniel Andrews encouraged Victorians to look for a better energy deal and to take advantage of the $250 payment.
“The best way to lower energy bills is to look for a better offer — that’s why we’re encouraging Victorians to take advantage of another round of the Power Saving Bonus to make sure they are on the best deal ahead of winter,” he said.
The $250 payment is not deducted from home owner’s electricity bills, but paid into their nominated bank account.
The current round of the Power Saving Bonus is open until August 31 and residents who have accessed the $250 payment as part of past rounds are eligible to apply again.
Applications for the payment can be made through the Victorian Energy Compare website, where customers can also find the best energy offers in their areas.
