The Central Goldfields Liberal Branch Maryborough is set to launch this May, inviting residents to express their opinions on key issues.
The branch will be headed by president Noelle Mason and will hold weekly gatherings to discuss local matters.
Ms Mason, who was also the former president of the previous Maryborough Liberal branch, said the time was right to open a new branch and provide another avenue for locals to have their say.
“Maryborough used to have one of the oldest branches in Victoria, and it was highly regarded in the past before it went into recess,” she said.
“After that time I was running my first social group called the Conservative Discussion Group, so we would get together over a meal or coffee and discuss different issues.
“I decided to include the whole Central Goldfields in the branch instead of just Maryborough as it can bring the whole shire together for fundraisers and events.
“I am very happy to stick my neck out and all we can do locally is look after our own people and try and build up support from there.”
The branch will officially launch on Wednesday, May 22 with an event at the Park Hotel starting at 6.30 pm with Member for Berwick and Shadow Minister for Police Brad Battin attending as a guest speaker.
A breakfast will also be held the following day on Thursday, May 23 at the Bull and Mouth from 9 am with all residents welcome to attend.
Ms Mason said the launch hopes to generate important discussions in the local community.
“What I want to do is establish something for our small corner of the country for people to feel more confident and to feel as if they can do something,” she said.
“Everyone is invited to the event, we will certainly have our values for everyone to read and they can join if they wish.
“Brad Battin will mainly speak about his experience as a policeman and talk about his recommendations, thoughts and processes.
“This is giving everybody the opportunity to have their say in the community and look at issues from a different perspective.
