The Central Goldfields Art Gallery is showcasing the inner beauty of Central Victoria with its newest exhibition created by local artists Phillip Adams, Craig Barrett and Jackie Gorring.

The joint exhibition aims to provide a variety of artworks and focus subjects from each artist.

Ms Gorring presents her newest sculpture work made from unconventional materials such as shoes, farm machinery and chicken bones.

Ms Gorring, who was also a part of the gallery’s quilt exhibition back in 2022, said the joint showcase will provide something of interest for everybody.

“Art gives me such strength, purpose and it is really the way that I communicate best,” she said.

“I just hope people can see the joy in what I do and realise you can make anything from anything.

“I also want people to be more aware of their surroundings, the beauty of objects and the beauty of everything that’s around them.

“The exhibition is a wonderful thread of animals, landscapes and figures going through the whole exhibition and there is something for everyone to enjoy.”

Mr Adams landscape and wildlife paintings, known as his specialty, provides an outlet for his love of his local environment in Bung Bong.

Mr Adams, who was an art teacher for over 20 years at the Maryborough Technical College, is hopeful the showcase will bring visitors a greater appreciation for their backyard.

“To me the landscape is a gift, and we are very fortunate here to have the landscape that we have at our doorstep,” he said.

“Painting gives me a chance to stop and really become absorbed in an area and look at the colours, the diversity, the patterns and the textures.

“What I get most out of art is when someone comes up to me and says they looked at the world in a different way because of my artwork.

“To me that is fantastic, because I have done my job as an artist — I have offered my appreciation and delight for the bush to someone else to look at and they have seen what I see.”

Mr Barrett returns to the art gallery for the first time since 2017 to display the abandoned gold mines and worn-down sheds in his hometown of Creswick.

Mr Barrett said the more than $2 million renovation to the facility since his last exhibition in Maryborough has been a sensational addition to the community.

“The redevelopments to the gallery is just spectacular — when you walk in the door you can’t remember what it used to look like,” he said.

“No matter how long we spend in our studios staring at our work, when you see it in a gallery it is like we are seeing it for the first time.

“The architects have done such a wonderful job, I love the repetition of arches in the building and once the garden is completed, it’s going to be the cherry on top.”

The Phillip Adams, Craig Barrett and Jackie Gorring exhibition will be officially opened this Saturday, April 20 at 2 pm by Central Goldfields Shire councillor Grace La Vella.

The exhibition is on display until Sunday, July 14, with entry being free.
