The Timor Cemetery Trust are inviting community members to an unveiling of the restored gate of the cemetery, almost 100 years after it was built.

The five-acre Timor-Bowenvale Cemetery was gazetted on January 13, 1868 and officially opened and consecrated on August 2, 1870.

In 1928 the cemetery trust installed a new fence and gate at a cost of £68, the equivalent of around $6000 in today’s money, raised through public donations and fundraising.

Local volunteers who form the cemetery trust have restored the gate from the 1920s and undertaken other cosmetic works at the cemetery.

These will be unveiled at a small service this coming Sunday, July 9 from 2 pm, with light refreshments to be served afterwards.
