Held at the Maryborough Highland Society, the association gathered to commemorate its winter season that finished with the Magpies taking the 13 and under crown and the Giants as the premiers of 16 and under.

The highlight of the event was the best and fairest counts, starting with the 13 and under competition that went down to the wire.

It was a three-person race between Annika Ross, fellow Magpie and grand final best on court Evie Ross and Talbot’s Ella Morris.

In the end, it was Annika Ross who held on to win the award with 22 votes, just one vote ahead of runner-up Morris, who finished on 21 votes.

A total of 30 netballers received votes in the 16 and under best and fairest vote count, a testament to the depth of quality of local netballers.

Fresh off winning best on court in the Giants’ 16 and under premiership, Smith added another award to her rapidly growing trophy cabinet, named best and fairest with 22 votes.

Leila Lowery and Mia Schodde, representing the Maryborough Magpies, both finished as runners-up to Smith with 11 votes.

The Maryborough Netball Association will restart its Twilight Competition on Thursday, October 9, with hopes of having an open mixed, open ladies, mixed 15 and under, as well as mixed 13 and under age groups, depending on team entries.

More information will be available on the association’s Facebook page and team entries are due by Friday, September 19.

Annika Ross won the 13 and under best and fairest by one point over runner-up Ella Morris.
