It’s incredible how the season can shift so much with a couple of results — just ask Navarre, who are now in the box seat for finals if they can beat Newstead next week, having halved their two-game deficit to eighth-placed Harcourt with a win over Talbot.

With the Lions playing Natte Bealiba next week, and coming off a 70-goal loss to Avoca, the Hoppers will more than likely just need a win of any margin to pinch the final spot in the eight, provided the Swans are able to keep up their winning ways.

They had to earn their win over an improved Talbot, however, with the Hawks starting strongly by scoring nine goals to eight in the first term to take a one-goal break into the first change.

But the Hoppers really got into gear in the second term, scoring 20 goals to nine to go into half time 10-goal leaders, and controlling their fate.

The Hawks did their utmost to close the gap, scoring 10 goals to seven in the third to turn for home just seven goals down.

But it was the Hoppers day, scoring 18 goals in the last quarter to 11 to seal victory and move to within one game of the top eight.

Erin Chisholm scored 28 goals for Navarre, while Darcy Crawford added 25. For Talbot, Dom Roche scored 21 goals, and Tia Skelton 18.
