Navarre sought revenge for their elimination final last season against Trentham and got it on Saturday at the Navarre Sports Complex by the narrowest of margins.
The Hoppers had to weather a Trentham comeback in the second half, and remain unbeaten in the early stages of the season.
It was a tight opening quarter, with Navarre taking a slight lead by two goals at the first change, 10-8. Mollie Simpson and Annabelle Price scored five goals apiece to start proceedings, while for Trentham, Tarnee Hammond scored seven times, and Jacqui Bell once.
Navarre made their move in the second term, scoring 12 goals to seven to move ahead by seven goals, 22-15. Simpson and Price scored six times each, while at the other end, Hammond scored four times, Zahlia Turton twice and Bell once.
However, Trentham needed a response and they were able to get it, with a nine-goal to four quarter allowing them to close back within two goals at the final change, 26-24. Hammond scored six times, while Turton added three, while for Navarre, Simpson and Price remained symmetrical, scoring twice each.
The last quarter was a battle, with Trentham scoring nine times and Navarre eight times, but it was the latter who would hold on. Price scored five times for the Hoppers, with Simpson scoring twice and Sadie Reading once. For Trentham, Hammond scored eight times, and Turton once.
The Hoppers will now look to continue their winning ways and make their biggest statement yet when they make the trip to Natte Bealiba, while the Saints will seek their first win of the season when they host Harcourt.
