The Hepburn Shire Council is calling for interested local residents passionate about the environment and keen to learn more about nature to get involved in the Nature Stewards program.
Council is co-hosting the Nature Stewards program in partnership with Mitchell Shire Council, Macedon Ranges Shire Council and the Victorian National Parks Association, with the 10 week program commencing in March.
Hepburn Shire mayor Brian Hood said the program is a great way to put a passion for the environment into action in the local community.
“This short educational course aims to foster a connection with nature and provide ways to get active for the protection of the environment,” he said.
“Participants will have the opportunity to discover more about their local environment, connect with others in the community and learn how to volunteer for nature as a citizen scientist, advocate for nature or become a nature guide.”
The program involves 10 weekly class sessions on Saturday mornings from 9.30 am until 12.30 pm, with four to six field sessions from 1.30 until 4.30 pm at locations near Daylesford, Beveridge and Woodend.
These will take place between March 16 and May 25, with the exclusion of the Easter long weekend, with a $175 fee attached for Hepburn, Mitchell and Macedon residents. A $45 fee applies to health care card holders, full time students and pensioners.
Applications close March 3, 2024.
