A commanding second half performance has kept Natte Bealiba in the race for the minor premiership, taking a 23-goal victory over Carisbrook at CHS Broadbent Oval.

The Swans were certainly made to work for it against a Redbacks team hell-bent on ensuring they could just about lock in their spot in the top four.

Thirteen goals to 10 in the first term meant that the Swans took a narrow three-goal lead at the first change. Polly Douglas scored seven goals and Emma Ryan six for the Swans, while for Carisbrook, Andrea Schafer and Paige McLean scored five goals apiece.

The Swans started to clear out slightly in the second term, and scored 11 goals to seven to increase their lead to seven at the main break, 24-17. Ryan scored all 11 goals for the Swans, while McLean scored four and Schafer three for the Redbacks.

Natte made their move in the third term, and effectively doubled their lead by scoring 15 goals to nine to extend their lead to 13 goals at the final change, leading 39-26. Ryan continued her charge for the Swans, scoring 14 goals and Shannae Mills added one, while for Carisbrook, Abbey Nalder moved into goal and scored seven for the term, while McLean added two.

The Swans put in a powerful last-term performance to ensure they would make it a comfortable victory by scoring 18 goals to eight. Ryan scored 17 goals to finish with 48 for the day, while Mills added one, and for Carisbrook, Nalder scored six to finish with 13, and Schafer two to finish with 10.

The result for Natte means they are still in position to claim the minor premiership if Avoca slips up, and they’ll look to continue their 12-game winning streak against Newstead next week.

Carisbrook still hold a one-game advantage in the top four, and will look to maintain that advantage when they host Navarre next week.
