Nalder’s 59-goal haul sees Redbacks triumph
Carisbrook put on a master-class on their home court, dominating Campbells Creek with an 88-18 victory.
Everything the Magpies tried to nullify the Redbacks' juggernaut proved futile, as the hosts piled on the goals on their way to a commanding win that pushed them inside the top four.
With aspirations of continuing their momentum for an unchanged team that vanquished Harcourt the week prior, Carisbrook came out guns blazing in the first quarter.
While the midcourt of Katie Bilton, Laura Hurse and Charlotte Cain were typically brilliant, shooter Abbey Nalder was amplifying the Redbacks' sensational start thanks to her noticeably sharper accuracy at goal.
Campbells Creek, who made one change after their heavy defeat to Navarre as McKenna Wynveen returned from C grade for Claire Jones, attempted to generate some momentum against the tide.
However, the Magpies' attempts at resistance were nullified by Chloe Egan and Elise Mottram in defence as the Redbacks stormed to a 26-5 quarter time lead.
The visitors wasted no time making alterations to their lineup at the opening interval. Captain Taylah Sartori looked to provide extra coverage at goal defence, allowing Mia Martin to be repositioned as a shooter.
With Sartori moved out of the midcourt, the Magpies struggled to create chances on offence against Carisbrook, who solidified their defensive goal circle by bringing on Finley Wagstaff as the goal keeper to start the term.
The Redbacks allowed just two goals in the second quarter, and after scoring 50 goals in round six, the hosts had 48 goals in the first half alone as the margin expanded to 41 goals at half time.
Similar to the week prior, the Magpies continued to strive for internal improvements despite the final result being virtually decided.
With Reagan Fulford shifting to wing attack and Heni Moeke joining Martin in the goal circle, Campbells Creek started to show an attacking rhythm in the third quarter.
Yet the Magpies didn’t have an answer for the Redbacks scorching hot shooters. All of the fire extinguishers in Carisbrook wouldn’t have cooled off Nalder and Jordan McClure’s flame-throwing shooting touch, with the pair adding 25 goals in the third term to help the Redbacks balloon the margin even further to 59 goals.
Campbells Creek did a commendable job restricting the Redbacks' scoring rate in the fourth quarter, but the hosts finished strongly with a 15-4 final term to complete a remarkable display.
In large part due to her season-high shooting percentage of 80 percent, Nalder ended the match with an impressive 59 goals. McClure was equally influential to Carisbrook’s exceptional attack on Saturday, ending with 29 goals.
Mia Martin led the Magpies with nine goals, closely followed by Fulford on five and Moeke on four.
