Tomorrow looms as an important day for Clunes, who can put themselves in pole position for a spot in the T20 grand final if they can defeat Colts Phelans.

Equally so, it is imperative for Colts Phelans to get back onto the winners list after losing twice in a week to previously winless Beaufort, and while they are still mathematically in the running for a grand final spot, they’ll need too much to go right.

Clunes will be looking to keep up their disciplined bowling from the last two weeks, having restricted Beaufort to 74 runs, while holding Carisbrook to 86 on Sunday — an impressive effort when you consider they made 99 without loss the week before against Maryborough.

The likes of Noah Davies, Ash Gunn and Muhammad Shehzad have been constant threats so far this season, while in recent weeks, Brett Coon has also made an impact as he begins to make his mark in A grade.

Jaxon Smyth has also been a regular strike bowler.

In the runs department, captain Mitch Coppick was back among the runs on Saturday after clubbing 55 to help the Magpies take a five-wicket one-day win, which has helped him enter the top five batters in the competition, while Lachlan Morganti isn’t too far behind him.

Meantime, for Colts Phelans, they have had the pieces to enjoy some good individual scores, as well as some good bowling, but they haven’t been able to enjoy the results since their round one triumph against Maryborough.

Rhys Wagstaff’s supreme 108 last week against Beaufort in their one-day loss was a highlight of the season so far, as he carried his bat throughout the innings to help Colts score 181.

English recruit Dave Robinson has also provided some fireworks with both bat and ball so far, while Dayne Baker has been one of the best bowlers of the season so far, sitting equal third, while also proving to be hard to get away for opposition batsmen.

Colts will be looking for more from their middle order to provide much-needed support, with just two batsmen making more than 50 runs so far this season, while Baker and Robinson have combined for nine of their 16 wickets so far.
