After a successful turnout at the recent community sessions organised for a major pipeline project, developers are holding additional meetings for residents interested in securing water supply to their properties.

Following a positive outcome from its feasibility study, the Southern Wimmera and Northeast Pyrenees Rural Water Supply Project has now moved on the next stage with a business case in the works.

The initiative involves the expansion of the existing Wimmera Mallee Pipeline, which after development, will consolidate water supply across parts of the Central Goldfields, Northern Grampians and Pyrenees Shires.

Public information sessions have been held over the past couple of weeks at Natte Yallock, Navarre and Bealiba to keep locals updated on the progress of the project — with further dates and meetings added to the calendar.

Scheduled to be held tomorrow and the day after, these sessions are an opportunity for landholders to learn more about the proposed water scheme and the cost and benefits of connections.

The times and locations for the one-hour drop-in sessions on Wednesday, October 18 are 10 am at Bealiba Public Hall, 12 pm at Natte Yallock Recreation Reserve, 2 pm at Moonambel Public Hall and 4 pm at the Amphitheatre Recreation Reserve.

For Thursday, October 19, sessions start from 10 am at Glenorchy Public Hall followed by 12 pm at Campbells Bridge Hall and 2 pm at Navarre Recreation Reserve.

The project partners — Grampians Wimmera Mallee (GWM) Water, Central Highlands Water, Pyrenees, Central Goldfields and Northern Grampians Shire Councils — are working towards developing a case for funding by higher levels of government and if the business case is proven to be viable, then the aim of the current phase of the project is to be shovel ready by the time applications for funding are sought.

To help build a strong case for the project, landholders with an interest in water connections are encouraged to lodge expressions of interest (EOI) — to learn more about the Southern Wimmera and Northeast Pyrenees Rural Water Supply Project, or to lodge an EOI, visit the GWM Water website (gwmwater.org.au/swnep-study), or enquire via the Central Goldfields, Northern Grampians or Pyrenees Shire Councils.
