The Maryborough Netball Association (MNA) conducted their annual tournament on Sunday, with three local teams taking victory across the under 17, under 15 and under 13 grades.
Each of the three age groups, as well as under 11s, all participated throughout the day, with 20 teams taking part.
In the under 13s, it was the Maryborough Castlemaine District Football Netball League (MCDFNL) against MNA Navy in the grand final, with the MCDFNL proving too strong with their ball movement for MNA Navy, clearing out to a 7-1 lead by half time, then going on with the job in the second half to win 17-1.
The under 15s tournament saw Donald and the MCDFNL make the grand final, and it was the MCDFNL that took a thrilling victory.
Donald made the better start, and took an early 3-0 lead, but the MCDFNL fought back in the remainder of the first half to reduce the margin to 5-4 at the break.
The MCDFNL took charge as the second half started, scoring six of the first eight goals to take a 10-7 lead. Donald fought back to score the final two goals of the game, but couldn’t quite find another goal to send the game to overtime, with the MCDFNL taking a 10-9 victory.
It was the under 17s grand final which provided the biggest drama of the day, with the Maryborough Football Netball Club (MFNC) taking on the Castlemaine District Netball Association (CDNA).
The CDNA were able to get away to a flyer, scoring the first three goals, before MFNC fought back to make a game of it by half time, trailing 6-4.

It was goal-for-goal for much of the second half before MFNC were able to hit the front late on.
However, a last-second goal to CDNA meant the game would go to overtime, with both teams locked at 10-10, with two three-minute periods to come. MFNC would take an early twogoal lead in the first part of overtime, but CDNA hit back to take the lead in the second part of overtime. However, MFNC would force double overtime with a last second goal of their own, with scores tied at 14 apiece. The rules meant that whichever team could establish a two-goal lead would go on to win. It was MFNC that was able to score three goals to one to take victory, 17-15.
