Minister tours new facilities
Almost a year after Mary-borough District Health Service (MDHS) officially welcomed patients into its expansion and upgrades, Victorian Minister for Health Mary-Anne Thomas was hosted by Ripon MP Martha Haylett to tour its new facilities.
The State MPs were joined by MDHS board members, staff and acting CEO Marc Sherwell, to oversee the hospital’s $115 million upgrades and expansion, touring the 32 inpatient unit, the dialysis and infusion unit, urgent care, family and visitor rooms and the maternity unit.
Present at the funding an-nouncement and during cons-truction, this was Ms Thomas’ first visit of the completed hospital.
“It was fantastic to show off the redeveloped Maryborough Hospital to the Health Minister. She was blown away by the new urgent care, dialysis unit, birthing rooms, and more,” Ms Haylett said.
Over the past 12 months, the hospital has been able to treat an additional 4000 patients, and includes two operating theatres and recovery spaces, and a day centre with medical imaging, pharmacy and oncology services.
“The redeveloped hospital has already helped so many people in our community and is delivering first-class healthcare close to home,” Ms Haylett said.
“It’s now the modern hospital our community deserves and has some of the best facilities in all of Victoria.”
The visit to MDHS kicked off a broader tour of the Ripon electorate for both MPs, overseeing new facilities at East Grampians Health Services in Ararat and Beaufort and Skipton Health Service in Beaufort.
