The Melbourne Grammar School Symphony Orchestra will return to the Maryborough Railway Station this weekend.
The 80-strong orchestra will perform festive music from the much loved Tchaikovsky ballet The Nutcracker, and, from the World War I classic film Lawrence of Arabia on Sunday, December 10, starting at 1 pm.
The performance is a part of the orchestra’s tour of regional Victoria, following on from their highly praised tour last year that travelled from the Mallee to Gippsland by train.
The orchestra stopped by Maryborough as part of the tour last year, performing at the railway station.
The Melbourne Grammar School Symphony Orchestra has been performing for almost 70 years with many graduates like cellist Li-Wei Qin and pianist Daniel Le going onto successful musical careers.
The orchestra currently comprises of 90 students from years seven to 12 with choir, ensembles and jazz groups also available to students.
Melbourne Grammar School also offers a range of scholarships outside of music from academic, to boarding and access scholarships.
These are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding ability and a passion for excellence in all they do.
Applications for 2025 annual scholarships are now open and close on Sunday, 28 January 2024. These scholarships are available to boys who will enter year seven or year nine in 2024.
All proceeds from the tour will be donated to the local communities visited, with free tickets available to any local school student learning music. Tickets are available through your local school.
