MDHS urgent care wait times increase
Complex, specialist cases at the Maryborough Hospital’s Urgent Care Centre (UCC) have led to increased demand and wait times locally.
In a statement, Maryborough District Health Service CEO Nickola Allan thanked residents for their patience and support, acknowledging the challenges associated with extended wait times.
“We recognise that waiting times can sometimes be challenging, especially during recent peaks, and we appreciate the understanding shown by patients and families,” she said.
Ms Allan said a number of complex cases contributed to the heightened demand at the UCC, which she said reinforces its distinction from an emergency department.
“The UCC is staffed by registered nurses who assess, triage, and coordinate care, with support from the Victorian Virtual Emergency Doctor service, local general practitioners, and Visiting Medical Officers,” she said.
“Patients with urgent or life-threatening needs are always prioritised, which may result in longer waits for those with less serious concerns.”
The health service is reminding residents there are alternative means to care in non-life threate-ning instances:
• Book in with your local General Practitioner (GP)
• Talk to a pharmacist: Priceline at 101 High Street, Maryborough or call 5460-5999, or Guardian Pharmacy 131 High Street, Maryborough or call 5461-1005
