The MDHS team recently celebrated their accreditation success.

Hospital accreditation is an independent review that takes place every three years. It involves external health experts reviewing how hospitals care for patients every day. This accreditation confirms that MDHS meets the national safety and quality in healthcare standards and is committed to providing safe, respectful and reliable care.

“This recognition confirms that the care we provide every day meets national safety and quality standards and is trusted by the community we serve,” MDHS acting CEO Debbie Rogers said.

“For patients, families and the wider community, it offers reassurance and confidence that they can trust the care they receive.

“Accreditation is not just about meeting standards, it’s about what it means for our patients and families. Whether you are visiting, supporting a loved one or receiving treatment yourself, you can be confident that safety, respect and quality are at the heart of everything we do.”

The assessment was on short notice, giving external experts a true view of how the hospital operates on any day. Assessors reviewed everything from infection prevention and medication safety, to communication, timely response when a patient becomes unwell and how we involve patients and families in care decisions.

“This accreditation is a recognition of the dedication and compassion of our entire hospital team,” Ms Rogers said.

“All of our staff including our cleaners, allied health, corporate staff, nurses and doctors everyone plays a part in delivering care our community can trust. I am proud of the work they do every day to ensure patients receive safe, person-centred care.

“Our staff went above and beyond during the assessment, demonstrating how our systems and processes work in everyday situations.”

Patients, residents and families also play an important role in improving services. Accreditation considers how well health services listen to feedback and respond to the needs of consumers.

Assessors highlighted the health service’s commitment to person-centred care, strong teamwork and a culture of continuous improvement.
