MDHS offer childbirth education
Maryborough District Health Services (MDHS) is now offering childbirth education sessions in their new birthing suites.
Led by an experienced midwife, the class will provide practical insights into pregnancy, labour, birth, and the early parenting journey.
It’s ideal for first-time parents and a great refresher for those adding to their family.
The sessions include information on:
Understanding late pregnancy, including what’s normal and common conditions
Labour and birth basics from early labour to assisted births like caesareans
Strategies for managing labour and pain
What to expect after birth and in the first few days
Breastfeeding support and practical tips
Input and support from maternal and child health nurses will also be available to provide information and resources on services for families.
MDHS women and children’s services manager Penny Browne said the classes provide valuable guidance from pregnancy to early parenting.
“Our goal is to provide expecting families with the knowledge and confidence they need as they prepare for this important life event,” she said.
“This session not only covers essential information about labour and birth, but also provides a sneak peek at our beautiful new facilities.”

Those who wish to attend are advised to meet the midwife at the cafe on the ground floor at 10.00 am, then proceed to the birth room on Level 1.
The class is run by MDHS to support local families on their parenting journey.
The Maternity Group Practice program at MDHS provides continuity of care to pregnant women and their families.
Women are supported by a small team of midwives and GP obstetricians throughout their pregnancy, birth and postnatal period.
