The Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) has been named as a finalist for the Premier’s Health Service of the Year Award, recognising the staff who continually go “above and beyond” for the community.
The local health service was announced as one of three finalists, alongside East Grampians Health Service and Latrobe Regional Hospital, under the medium health service category as part of the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards.
The annual awards acknowledge the achievements of healthcare services and workers across the state.
MDHS deputy CEO and director of infrastructure, technology and experience David Edwards said the health service being named a finalist for the awards was recognition of the continued efforts of staff.
“The team have put in an amazing effort with lots of continued challenges thrown in our way over this COVID period,” he said.
“What’s great about the Health Service of the Year Award is it is an acknowledgement of all the things that we’ve done in addition and on top of all the basic things we have to do with COVID to make sure our community, patients, residents and staff are safe.
“It goes without saying that we can’t do any of what we do without the amazing team we have at MDHS.
“They have gone and continue to go above and beyond for this community and that’s something we see every day.
“It’s great to be able to be named a finalist and recognised for the work and effort everyone’s put in.”
Mr Edwards said it was part of MDHS’ culture to provide high quality care across both the Central Goldfields and Pyrenees regions, with the service continuing to look at ways it can provide for the community.
“I think part of the culture at MDHS is going above and beyond for the community,” he said.
“Certainly the desire is to continue to grow and develop services that make it easier for the community to access them where we can.
“Working in partnership where we need to with higher level services, like the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre in providing oncology services locally, is a great way we can do that.”
Winners of the Victorian Public Healthcare Awards will be announced at a gala night on October 13.
