MDHS Charity Day raises over $20,000
The 11th annual Maryborough District Health Service’s (MDHS) Charity Golf Day was a hole-in-one event, providing over $20,000 for local healthcare.
Around 100 golfers converged at Maryborough Golf Club on Thursday for a fun round on the fairways to benefit a key community service.
This year’s event also saw the first Lawn Bowls Challenge, with six teams of three lighting up the greens throughout the day.
MDHS CEO Nickola Allan said the community’s generous donations from green fees, raffles and auctions will go towards healthcare services, equipment and workforce development.
“It’s one of the highlights of our annual calendar,” she said.
“The opportunity to connect with our major partners and with so many members of our local community, enjoy an exquisite course and have a bit of a hit and giggle, it’s a great day knowing that every dollar raised is going towards the health service.
“Knowing that true connection to community and the ability for the funds raised to go forward to improve outcomes for our community but also for our staff as well is fantastic.
“It just means we can keep looking forward and try to find new and different ways to support our teams to deliver the best care and also enable our community to access it.”
The annual fundraiser is part of the partnership between MDHS, Maryborough Golf Club and True Foods, a partnership True Foods managing director Mark Thurlow dearly appreciates.
“For us as a business, it’s around that opportunity to give back to the local community in something which isn’t benefitting one sporting club but the entire community,” he said.
“We all rely on health services, we all need them at our worst possible time.
“We made a conscious decision when we moved to Maryborough not to come in and take naming rights away from other sponsors who had been in the community for generations, so we decided that working with the MDHS and a lot of the schools is a really nice way for us to give back.”
Maryborough Golf Club general manager Bonaventure Tai said the fundraiser is at the core of the club’s mission.
“It’s supporting our medical health team and the town itself, they play a significant role within the community whether it’s directly or indirectly,” he said.
“We are a community club and part of our objective is supporting the local community in whatever capacity.
“There is more than just golf and bowls, we like to give back.
“There are some exciting opportunities that I’ve identified that could potentially be included in the years to come.”
