Yet during the midst of that dominant stretch, there has been one team they’ve been unable to vanquish. That team is the Harcourt Lions.

In last season’s pivotal round 13 clash, a six-goal opening quarter barrage by captain Thomas Walters, Jack Threlfall and Carl Thiesz powered Harcourt to a valuable 39-point victory.

The Hawks suffered a similar fate in their 2026 season opener after the Lions flipped a five-point half time deficit with seven goals in the third term before securing their 35-point win with an expertly defended fourth quarter.

With Darcy Osborne, Kirk Lang and Harli Givvens leading a refined defensive mindset that’s allowed an average of 37.8 points in their last five matches, Talbot will be bullish about their chances of a statement victory in the race for the top four.

Ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster, the Hawks will look to prevent Harcourt from trapping the football inside their defensive half for extended periods after Billy Quirk, Jordan Gartside and Braydon Vaz piled relentless pressure on Talbot’s backline back in round one with their constant intercept marks.

Talbot’s Victor Micallef, Dylan Tarczon, Tommy Alkemade and Jude McGuire will also look to control the midfield battle against the Lions’ brigade led by Walters, Threlfall, Cameron and Nathan Anderson after they starred in Harcourt’s 215-point win over Campbells Creek.
