The Hawks have washed away any semblance of their distasteful five-game losing skid, vaulting into sixth courtesy of valiant victories over Trentham, Newstead and Maryborough.

Their win over the Giants was particularly impressive, with a staggering 51 goals from the ever-reliable Elenoa Costello guiding the Hawks to their second-highest score of the season.

Talbot took a calculated risk starting Charli Kaye alongside Costello at goal attack, but the 18 and under standout turned that gamble into gold, giving a unit that’s struggled at times this season a noticeable punch.

Saturday’s match with Maldon is an advantageous opportunity for the Hawks to refine their offensive potency ahead of another chance at premiership glory.

The Bombers will travel to Talbot Recreation Reserve highly motivated after seeing their best chance of obtaining a long-awaited victory evaporate by a clutch Campbells Creek.

Thanks to the persistent defensive efforts of Heidi Brookes and Laney McNeill as well as the midcourt efficiency of Rory Baker and Claire Kelly, shooters Alannah Furmston and Sophie Zammit guided Maldon to a one-goal lead at three-quarter time before the Magpies raced away at the death.

The final result was a disappointing end to an otherwise excellent performance by the Bombers, who will hope to harness those positives into a competitive showing on Saturday.
