MCDFNL Round 13 Football Preview Talbot v Maldon
Talbot Recreation Reserve will mark a major juncture to Maldon’s finals aspirations as they attempt to avoid the deadly swoop of the Hawks.
Despite still being four points adrift of the top eight, a groundswell of optimism is quickly building around the Bombers hanger after their dominant 86-point victory over Campbells Creek.
Saturday’s performance certainly added some merit to that hopefulness. Led by the excellence of Damian Wust, Will Golds, Darcy Kelly and Tadgh Cananzi, Maldon were more decisive and confident with their decision-making and effectiveness with the football, resulting in a seven-goal second quarter barrage.
After losing to Navarre, Carisbrook, Trentham and Harcourt by over 100 points, round 13 will be a critical test to see if the Bombers can maintain their possessional advancements against another competition heavyweight.
Despite the treacherous conditions at Hedges Oval, Talbot still produced moments of free-flowing football in their 39-point victory over the Maryborough Giants.
With players like Victor Micallef, Jude McGuire, Dylan Tarczon, Tommy Alkemade, Joshua Britten, Riley Hamilton and Elliot Cullinan, the Hawks have a wealth of talented ball-handlers who can pick out forwards like Jarrod Stephens and Zac Cicchini inside 50 or provide the finishing touch themselves.
Fresh off keeping Campbells Creek to just four goals after quarter time, Thomas McNeill, Isaiah Hartley and Callum Buchanan will be instrumental in ensuring Maldon doesn’t get overwhelmed by Talbot’s high-powered arsenal.
