MCDFNL Round 11 Netball Preview Carisbrook vs Avoca
Desperate for their first taste of A grade premiership glory in 27 years, Carisbrook have looked as deadly as ever, notching their eighth consecutive victory with a 14-goal win over Lexton.
However, will it be enough to topple reigning premiers Avoca as one of the competitions most exhilarating rivalries renews this weekend.
The Redbacks have consistently been genuine challengers to Avoca’s historic dynasty, coming up on the losing end of the Bulldogs’ 2019 and 2023 Grand Final triumphs.
Carisbrook looked poised to challenge Avoca again for a premiership in 2025. However, as it has seemed since the turn of the century, the talented Redbacks ran into someone who was slightly better on the day, losing to Talbot in a heartbreaking preliminary final.
Carisbrook has rebounded with another stellar campaign, but there’s no mistake that the Bulldogs remain the team to beat in A grade, a statement amplified by their blockbuster 10-goal victory over Navarre.
After another incredible showing last weekend, Avoca’s star-studded shooting tandem of Maddy Egan and Gina Steel will contend with arguably the competition’s most in-form defensive unit this Saturday.
Led by Finley Wagstaff, Elise Mottram, Charlotte Cain and Chloe Egan, the Redbacks have allowed a measly average of 27.7 goals a game in their last seven matches.
Saturday will also mark the first time Ella Patten will go against her former team after joining the Bulldogs this season, likely marking the occasion by defending her old player-coach, Jordan Macilwain.
