MCDFNL Round 11 Netball Preview Campbells Creek vs Maryborough Giants
The Maryborough Giants will attempt to bounce back from a disheartening defeat to Harcourt when they travel to Campbells Creek Recreation Reserve to face the winless Magpies.
With player-coach Laura McStravick swishing the net with regularity, Maddison Smith and Kayley Walhouse providing drive in the midcourt and Macey Parry and Riahni Egan patrolling the defensive third, all of the ingredients were there for a Maryborough victory last Saturday.
However, a combination of bad timing and bad luck saw the Giants lost touch from Harcourt in the dying stages of the fourth quarter, helplessly seeing a golden opportunity to leap inside the top eight evaporate before their very eyes.
Saturday occupies a chance for Maryborough to immediately redeem themselves, as a victory would guarantee a priceless momentum swing with Talbot hosting Newstead and Dunolly playing Natte Bealiba. Campbells Creek will make sure the Giants don’t count their chickens until they hatch as they look to build upon their promising round 10 performance.
With the newly-formed shooting tandem of Millie King and Heni Moeke beginning to click with the assistance of captain Taylah Sartori and Ashleigh Coburn, the Magpies reached their highest score of the season against Newstead.
Alongside their team’s attacking landmark, Reagan Fulford and Phoebe Jones also make solid contributions on defence, hoping to do a similar job of containing Maryborough’s McStravick and Bridget Allan this weekend.
