MCDFNL Round 11 Football Preview Trentham vs Lexton
With Natte Bealiba, Avoca and Maldon circling their top eight place, Lexton would love to procure a valuable four points from Trentham Reserve this Saturday. However, for that to happen, they’ll need to be at their best against the reigning premiers.
Considering the Tigers held a four-point lead at three-quarter time during their round three encounter with Harcourt and had a hotly contested yet low-scoring first half versus Navarre, a major upset doesn’t seem completely out of the realm of possibilities.
While a seven-goal to one second quarter doomed their chances of victory last weekend, Lexton showed incredible persistence against ladder-leaders Carisbrook.
Alongside superb individual outings from Thomas Cullinan, Henry Marshman and Tynan Haintz, Eric Wilkinson, Billy Briody and Thomas McGregor marshalled a defensive unit that held the Redbacks to one point in the fourth quarter.
Wilkinson, Briody and McGregor will once again be crucial to Lexton’s defensive gameplan this weekend, which will be heavily centred around stopping key forward James Regan.
The multiple-time MCDFNL Team of the Year full forward was an unstoppable goal-kicking machine at Deledio Reserve on Saturday, finishing with nine goals in Trentham’s 73-point victory over Dunolly.
The Tigers cannot centre all of their attention on Regan, with club legend Jake Keogh currently ranked second in the competition’s goal-kicking charts with 40 goals while the likes of Joel Cowan, Joel Dovaston and Mark Strickland are a constant threat inside 50.
