MCDFNL Round 10 Netball Preview Newstead vs Campbells Creek
Newstead has the opportunity to immediately rectify last weekend’s slip-up when they host a motivated Campbells Creek.
Round nine could’ve fared much better for the Steaders, who now trail the top eight by four points after losing to Harcourt while the Maryborough Giants and Talbot earned tough victories.
The play of defenders Layla Benson-Zepnick and Amelia Britt, as well as the shooting of Brianna Jury in her 100th game for the club, produced some bright spots, but a slow start gave the Lions a noticeable gap Newstead couldn’t overcome.
The Magpies are also looking to rebound from a loss after they met with Natte Bealiba, looking to become the second team in as many weeks to earn their first victory of 2026 at Newstead’s expense.
Despite being defeated by 55 goals, the Magpies had their moments against the top-of-the-table Swans, forcing multiple centre breaks in the second and third quarters.
Newcomer Millie King also gave an offensive jolt on debut, combining well with Taylah Sartori and Heni Moeke on her way to scoring 15 goals.
This Saturday will mark nearly a full calendar year since Campbells Creek and Newstead last battled on the netball court. In that encounter on June 21, 2025, the Magpies trailed by just 10 goals at half time before the Steaders accelerated away with a 33-12 second half.
